Would Washington’s abdication of power following the Revolution be an exception to this rule?

  1. I believe that Douglas was talking about structures not individuals. He had not only Washington but several other presidents who willingly gave up individual power.
    But I think it is undeniable that the relinquishment of which you speak was one of the most profound events in history. More on that later.
