gay marriage

.
Congratulations to New York on legalizing gay marriage.

This has been a very hard issue for me and I have had to come a long way on it over the past 30 years.

I have finally come so far as to be willing to support a court decision based on equal protection of the laws.

However, I am very glad that it is being done legislatively which is much firmer evidence of acceptance.

  1. I will join YA in applauding a legislative solution in NY as opposed to a judicial ruling. Having been raised in the Bible Belt my thoughts on same sex marriage have moved from “no way” to “none of my business”.

I also think marriage is not the State’s (or government at any level) business either. So what I would like to see is a state, through legislation, say we are out of the marriage business. If you want to get married you do not have to ask the state for permission to do so - just do it.
