Romney's taxes

.
Romney should have released lots of tax returns no later than Santorum's withdrawal from the race.

When you know you are going to be attacked as the richman's richman candidate of the richman's party, there are a few things that you can do:

1.   Get a lot of disclosures about your money out there early and later refer to it as old news.  Now he is stuck with releasing them just before the election (now) or letting that mess sit there and stink.

2.   Don't have a horse of yours give a very exotic performance in the Olympics.

3.   Come out firmly against the "big banks" in some serious way as some sort of "Sister Souljah moment" to at least suggest that you are not their pawn.

  1. All I can think is that whatever he doesn't want seen must look pretty bad. Obama's got 12 years worth out there and Romney's having to argue that 1 plus another to come is enough. Also, he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get the 2011 return out there. If he were in a hurry I think that he could arrange for his accountants to get that return done by this Monday. Be he is blaming it on the accountants, kind of, saying he'll release it as soon as his accountants finish it. Man they're slow.

  2. What are we looking for in Romney’s tax returns? I think the accusation is that Romney has not paid any taxes NOT that he has failed to file tax returns. If he paid $0 in taxes that may offend many people’s sense of “fair play” and it would almost certainly be a net political negative for Romney.

Still, I get the feeling that most of the individuals on this blog favor the “don’t blame the players” argument. If Romney played by the rules I don’t care how much he paid in taxes.

p.s. that does not imply that I like the rules.
